Body Voices is a social art project for people who have survived sexual violence and abuse. The core of the project is to promote and support the healing process, so the participants mainly practice techniques to cope with their traumas in workshops. In the process, a large-scale work of art is created in a joint creative process, which is a symbol for empowerment, self-efficacy as well as for the strength of the community.
The Body Voices pilot project took place in Tübingen in January 2023 and offered 28 affected women the chance to engage with various therapeutic approaches. The workshop lasted three days and offered different fields: Breathing, body and dance, singing and sounding, sound field therapy, abdominal massage and meditation - all underpinned by a trauma therapy-oriented basic programme. This work in silence is the quiet side of Body Voices.
For the finished work of art, each woman designed the inside of her very own flower with Eva Michielin. The names, synonyms or initials of the participants can be seen on the velvet part. At 4.5 x 4.5 metres, the completed collaborative work is hard to miss - and with it, neither is the theme: this is the loud side of Body Voices.
