The photograph used as the background for this image was taken on the Atlantic coast of France. There were tree trunks lying on the beach, which had first been burnt and then bleached by the sun. This created incredible patterns. As so often, I was out and about with my camera and spotted the snake on the tree lying there on the beach from a distance.

Eve and the snake – an ancient motif. In many cultures, the snake symbolises what is false, duplicitous and treacherous. Many women who are intelligent and strong and go their own way are, at some point in their lives, called snakes. In just as many cultures, however, it stands for change, its gift of transformation and its wisdom. Actually, I’m constantly shedding my skin. I’m constantly changing. I never stand still. For me, this constant change and becoming something new is vital – in the past, it was even a matter of survival. Standing still is out of the question; things always move on, and those who move on change.

It’s not so easy for those who accompany and love you. Sometimes not everyone keeps up and loses touch.
Love me if you can (inspired by the film title ‘Catch Me If You Can’) – the lyrics touch on a few themes here: can you love the snake? The one that’s constantly shedding its skin? The one that others condemn? But which is actually wise and strong? Can you bear the fact that it’s constantly changing?
